The Ministry of the Interior, the Border Guard Service and the Prosecutor General’s Office deny responsibility for the escape of the Russian blogger Eduard Baghirov, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In Friday’s sitting of the legislature, Minister of the Interior Alexei Roibu said the investigation into the case of Eduard Baghirov has never been managed by the Ministry, the case being examined by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Deputy Prosecutor General Andrei Pantea said the Prosecutor General’s Office is to blame only for not envisioning that the judge dealing with the case of Baghirov can ignore the procedural obligations. “The judge informed first the Prosecutor’s Office and then the Ministry of the Interior about the placement of Baghirov under house arrest,” he stated.
For his part, Roman Revenko, director of the Border Guard Service, said that Eduard Baghirov left Moldova through the border crossing point Cugiurgan-Pervomaisc, which is not controlled by the Moldovan authorities. “The Border Guard Service cannot impose restrictions to ban a person from leaving the country. It can only fulfill related orders, but we received no instructions in the case of Eduard Baghirov,” he said.
Liberal MP Vladimir Saharneanu asked setting up a special commission of inquiry into the escape of Eduard Baghirov, stressing the justice in Moldova is rotten.
Eduard Baghirov was arrested in June on suspicion he took part in the organization of the public disorder of April 2009. The blogger ran away earlier this week after being transferred under house arrest. Reportedly he is now in Russia.
