The competent state institutions do not provide information about the whereabouts of Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko on December 23, when, as politician Sergiu Mocanu asserted, he injured a person from a gun while hunting in Falesti district. The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) denies the accusations, saying the prosecutors have another suspect in this case.
Sergiu Mocanu said that immediately after the happening, Valeriu Zubko went abroad on leave. The press service of the PGO confirmed for Info-Prim Neo that the prosecutor general is on leave and will return to work next week most probably. But it could not specify Zubko’s whereabouts on the day the tragedy happened, arguing only the prosecutor general can furnish such information.
Asked by Info-Prim Neo to say if the prosecutor general crossed the border and when, the Border Police invoked the law on the protection of personal data and the law on access to information. Under the legislation, the information about the crossing of the state border by persons is protected by law and can be provided only to the person involved or his/her legal representative, with the consent of the person or of the court and the prosecution bodies.
The head of the NGO Acces-Info Vasile Spinei said the information about border crossing is not secret, but must be asked from the PGO or from the person involved, i.e. Valeriu Zubko. The Border Police cannot give such information to the press or third persons.
On January 6, the leader of the “Antimafie” Movement Sergiu Mocanu told the press that Valeriu Zubko shot a man while hunting and the crime was hidden so that he escaped punishment. The man, Sorin Paciu, died later in the hospital
In a statement to the media, the prosecutor general denied the accusations. The prosecutors in Falesti announced that they suspect the vice president of the Chisinau Court of Appeals Gheorghe Cretu of shooting the man.
