The state of emergency was extended for 60 days as from April 5. The authorities argued that the risks related to the supply of electricity persist, given that there is not enough production capacity in the country, while the sabotage actions in the justice sector amplify the attempts to destabilize the country and create impediments in the process of joining the EU, IPN reports.

According to Prime Minister Dorin Recean, the state of emergency will offer the Government the tools needed to ensure peace, security and the welfare of citizens without violating their fundamental rights. “The Government and the state institutions will continue ensuring peace and harmony in society and working to stage the recovery of the economy,” the Premier stated in the Parliament meeting in which the prolongation of the state of emergency was decided.

The current state of emergency was first declared on February 24 last year, when the war in Ukraine broke out, and has been extended repeatedly since then.
