The Liberal Democratic Party’s bill to annul the statute of limitations for the illegalities committed in April 2009 was adopted in the final reading. Thus, the persons who will be found guilty will be punished no matter how much time passed since those events, IPN reports.
The legislation provides that after five years of the commission of particular offenses, the culprits can no longer be held accountable. The passed bill annuls the statute of limitations for the crimes and abuses committed in April 2009 or related to those events.
Large-scale protests against the outcome of the April 5, 2009 elections were held in central Chisinau two days after the elections. On the night of April 8, hundreds of young people were arrested and then ill-treated in police stations.
