Strong wind causes blackouts in southern Moldova

Several settlements in Taraclia district remained without electric power as a result of Monday's strong wind and rain. Dorina Cruc, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the wind damaged the electric power lines in Taraclia towns and the villages Novosiolovca, Aluatu and Salcia. Intervention teams are working to restore the power supply. According to estimates, the rain during the last two weeks caused damages of over 50 million lei. In the villages Brezoaia and Volentiri of Stefan-Voda district, the rain on Sunday destroyed crops, orchards and vineyards. The damage was assessed at over 1.6 million lei.
