Moldovan football clubs kicked off the new season in European cups. Dacia Chisinau obtained a 1-0 victory over Slovenia’s NK Celje in the first leg of the first Europa League qualifying round, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The only goal of the game was netted in the first half by Swedish forward Osman Sow. Five minutes from full time, Dacia’s Ghenadie Orbu received his marching orders, but Dacia maintained their lead.
On the same day, July 5, Zimbru Chisinau traveled to Wales, where they produced a scoreless draw with Bangor City. Although the Yellow-Greens maintain a good chance for qualification, their lackluster performance against the Welsh led to the sacking of coach Oleg Bejenari.
The second legs will be played on Thursday, July 12.
Moldova’s third representative in the Europa League, Milsami Orhei will enter the competition in the second round. The Eagles will take on the winner of the fixture between Aktobe Kazakhstan and Torpedo Kutaisi Georgia.
