Suicide and suicide attempts are a global problem, which also affects Moldova. People of all ages face this problem. However, there is a solution to any problem. The statements were made for IPN by Silvia Ciubrei, head of the communication and public relations department of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy Nicolae Testemițanu. On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, which is marked on September 10, medical students organized a flash mob.

"In 2018, in the Republic of Moldova, more than 500 people committed suicide. Suicide is one of the 20 causes of mortality. With this flash mob, we wanted to prove that there is a solution to any problem. Each person is helped by another person. Life is unique and must be fully lived", said Silvia Ciubrei. The head of the communications department at USMF said that the students reacted positively to the idea of a flash mob. “The students perceive the problem of suicide as a problem that affects young people. That is why they helped us organize the flash mob, which helps draw attention to the phenomenon”, said Silvia Ciubrei.

One of the flash mob participants is Mariana Brunchi, a 6th year general medicine student. „Considering that we, medical students, are fighting for life, we wanted to show that suicide is not an option. I ask those who consider attempting to commit suicide to go to youth centers, to look for their friends' help or to approach us, medical students, if they can not count on the support of their families”, said Mariana Brunchi.

Since 2003, September 10th marks the World Suicide Prevention Day. The initiative belonged to the International Association for Suicide Prevention and the World Health Organization.
