Articles, poems and essays about Grigore Vieru, written by over 200 personalities from Moldova and abroad, were published in a volume dedicated to the bard, entitled “Sunday Man”. The book was launched within a festivity held to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the poet’s birth, IPN reports.

The president of the Writers Union Arcadie Suceveanu said the book includes a huge volume of sympathy, love and remembrance for Grigore Vieru. “Grigore Vieru is not forgotten. He continues to live. His poems and the books about the poet are in demand. He became a national poet and is the first contemporary classical writer,” he stated, adding that the title’s book suggests that the poems of Grigore Vieru are a holiday, a Sunday.

Poet Nicolae Dabija noted that Grigore Vieru would have been very glad to see this book and how much he is loved. “Grigore Vieru was the most loved and most hated poet as well because he always told the truth.  This book is full of tears and gratitude,” he said.

The director of the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga” Claudia Balaban said it is hard to speak about Grigore Vieru in the past tense as he continued to live by his books and poems. “Grigore Vieru wrote the most beautiful poems about women, love, mother and nation. He wrote for all the ages. He was and will be read,” she stated.

The event involved students of the Sangera Lyceum “Alexandru cel Bun”, who recited poems.

The book “Sunday Man” is available from libraries and bookshops.
