The Penal Board of the Supreme Court of Justice declared admissible the appeal in the case that concerns Ion Rusu and SRL Caravita Co, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the advocacy house “Popa si Asociatii”.

By their appeal, the lawyers of the advocacy house ask to retry the case, to pass a new judgment and to order to put Ion Rusu on probation. They demand to annul the complementary punishment - liquidation of the legal entity SRL “Caravita Co”.

The lawyers also insist that the judges should quash the sentence pronounced by the Buiucani Court on November 6, 2015 and the decisions of the Chisinau Appeals Court of March 28, 2016 and of the Penal Board of the Supreme Court of Justice of September 21, 2016.

The hearing where the Supreme Court of Justice will examine lawyers’ requests will be held on April 6, 2017, in the absence of the parties.

Ion Rusu, who is the brother-in-law of ex-Premier Vlad Filat and the de facto manager of SRL Caravita Co and Business Estate Investments SRL, in November 2015 was sentenced to five years in jail for money laundering that resulted in considerable damage to Banca de Economii (Saving Bank). By the same sentence, the court ordered to collect €2.7 million damages from Ion Rusu și and the two companies for the benefit of Banca de Economii.
