Moldova’s President Nicolae Timofti signed a decree naming the new members of the Supreme Security Council, IPN reports. Under the decree, the Council will be headed by Nicolae Timofti, who is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, while Alexei Barbaneagra, presidential adviser on defense and national security, will serve as its secretary.
The Supreme Security Council also includes the director of the Security and Intelligence Service Mihai Balan, director of the National Anticorruption Center Viorel Chetraru, Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin, Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet and ministers Oleg Balan, Anatol Salaru, Natalia Gherman, and Anatol Arapu.
Parliament is represented in the Council by Speaker Andrian Candu and chairman of the parliamentary commission on national security, defense and public order Veaceslav Untila. Among the Council members are also the leaders of the Alliance for European Integration Vlad Filat, Marian Lupu and Mihai Ghimpu, president of the Academy of Sciences Gheorghe Duca, and secretary general of the staff of the President of Moldova Ion Paduraru.
