A surgeon of the Emergency Medicine Hospital is suspected of asking 13,000 lei from a female patient for surgery, IPN reports.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, the informer was hospitalized with multiple traumas of the mandible after she was beaten by her partner a month ago. The woman was diagnosed with severe fracture and was to be immediately operated. After the patient had a discussion with the surgeon and paid for the operation at the Hospital’s pay desk, she was told to pay 10,000 lei more for the surgery to be performed faster.
The surgeon also asked 3,000 lei after the surgery. The women informed the National Anticorruption Center and on August 30 prosecutors and anticorruption officers monitored the transmission of the second tranche and caught the doctor red-handed.
The woman surgeon was escorted to the Center and is being questioned. She yielded up the money and admitted her guilt. She faces a jail term, a fine and ban on holding particular posts.
