The fingerprints and palm prints of drivers in Moldova will be taken by using live-scanners. This is provided in the regulations concerning the obtaining, monitoring and use of dactyloscopic information approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.
The dactyloscopic information from drivers will be collected by employees of the Ministry of the Interior at the multifunctional centers of the Public Services Agency. The centers will be outfitted with digital equipment for taking prints (live-scanners). After the prints are taken, the files will be introduced in the automated system for identifying dactyloscopic data.
In Moldova, there are over 1 million drivers. The taking of drivers’ prints became mandatory in 2002, after the law on the state dactyloscopic registration was adopted. The given procedure hasn’t been implemented because the necessary equipment was absent.
Currently, an outdated fingerprint taking method is used, on paper. More than 400,000 dactyloscopic files have been collected into the database of the Ministry of the Interior during 16 years.
