Only a garbage processing plant can solve the problems related to the Tantareni dump in Anenii Noi district. It's the opinion of Tudor Maniv, the head of Autosalubritate garbage carrying company from Chisinau. “The dump has become a problem around which politics is made,” Maniv told media Wednesday after meeting the mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoacă, and the mayor of Tantareni, Ion Mastac, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Italian researchers made a study in 2007, which showed that the Tantareni dump is one of the best in the country. Yet its working term expires by the end of 2010. It will be closed unless other decision is made till then,” Tudor Maniv said.
Now the garbage from Chisinau is taken to provisory stores in the city, since Autosalubritate's cars are barred from entering the Tantareni dump since January 16 by a group of villagers, says Autosalubritate's chief. “There is a special place designed namely for such situations. Yet, they can hold the garbage one day more only. The problem needs to be solved urgently. Otherwise we'll have to ask Ialoveni district's president to allow to take the garbage there,” Tudor Maniv said.
Ion Mastac, Tantareni's mayor, is skeptic as to solving the problem. “It's useless to talk to the protesters. I told them we are representatives of the public authorities, we act according to the law which says the dump can work till December 31, 2010.”
Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca says the problem of the Tantareni dump is generated by the fact that no money were given to the village from 1991 to 2007.
“The Chisinau city hall has been steadily supported the Tantareni mayor office since 2007. Additionally we want to involve in a number of projects: to build an aqueduct, to pay the Tantareni mayor office for rent the plot and for carrying out a medical research on the Tantareni villagers' health,” the mayor said.
According to Dorin Chirtoaca, the proposals will be presented to the protesters shortly.
A group of citizens from Tantareni have been barring cars to enter the dump since January 16. They claim the garbage pollutes the locality and want the dump closed.
