The inhabitants of Tantareni village of Anenii Noi district, who staged a protest on April 22, aim to collect signatures against the building of a waste recycling plant in the settlement and to submit the list to the head of state. They said that they want the village to be known for its traditions and the people’s deeds, not for the waste dump.
Liuba Ilovan, head of the Women’s Public Association “Marinimia” (“Generosity”), has told IPN that the waste problem is only a pretext for hiding the abuse of power committed at the mayor’s office, while those who want to open the plant are corrupt persons who do not obey the law.
Mayor Ion Mastan said that the waste recycling plant would solve the problem of waste and the problem of workplaces and would bring investments to the village. “We must tackle the ecological security issue constructively. We want to build a wastewater treatment station so that the water in the settlement is clean,” he stated. According to the mayor, the councilors who organized the protest earlier this week include four candidates for the mayoralty. “If the village had been indeed against me and against the construction of the plant, there would have come 1,000 people, not several persons,” said Ion Mastan.
Local teacher Ina said that the mayor ignores villagers’ views, while the signatures collected by the local authorities until now were obtained by swindle. “The mayor tells the people that there will be built a stadium and that garbage bins will be put at their gates. But he does not tell them that a waste processing plant will be set up here,” said the woman.
Contacted by IPN, the head of the Chisinau cleanup company “Autosalubritate” Tudor Maniv said the municipality continues the talks with the authorities of Tantareni so as to resume transporting the garbage from Chisinau to the waste dump in the village. “There are 19 million cubic meters of waste there, but the area is designed for 44 million cubic meters,” said Maniv.
On April 22, about 100 residents and councilors of Tantareni mounted a protest in front of the mayor’s office against the building of a waste recycling plant in the settlement. The village has about 2,400 inhabitants. According to the mayor, 600 of them work abroad.
