The teachers resumed the protests against the government, demanding higher pays. Several hundred teachers on March 23 picketed the Parliament Building, accusing the authorities of delaying the process of increasing salaries for education sector employees. The teachers chanted anti-government slogans, complaining about the low salaries they get, IPN reports.
“We must have a decent salary so that we could work further in this sphere here, in the Republic of Moldova. As a young specialist, if the situation does not change until the next academic year, I will have to go abroad to work,” stated Constantin Morari, teacher at the Light Industry Center of Excellence.
Ion Bulat, first deputy chairman of the Education and Science Trade Unions Federation, said that protests will be mounted until April 5. If the authorities do not react to their demands until then, the teachers will resort to more drastic measures, including blocking of the education process, even if this thing is not wanted.
“Next Tuesday, we scheduled the biggest event – a march throughout Chisinau. Afterward, next Wednesday, we have a plenary meeting with all the district bodies and will decide the further actions. We will be firm until justice is done to us,” stated Ion Bulat.
The teachers said on March 24 they will picket the Government Building. The teachers ask for a 50% increase in salaries as of January 1 this year and for the annual recalculation of pensions for teachers who continue to work after retirement.
