Teachers and students of educational institutions in the field of architecture and construction in Chisinau and experts of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research have participated for two years in seminars, study visits and internships in Italy, to gain experience in order to consolidate protection of the cultural heritage of Moldova. The activities were part of an EU-funded Twinning project implemented in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism, IPN reports.
The Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Liliana Nicolăescu-Onofrei, said that, due to the actions carried out within the project, the Moldovan authorities received support in protecting the country's cultural heritage, in order to modernize cultural management and policies and efficiently manage the cultural heritage sector according to European standards and international best practices. According to the minister, as a result the draft law on monuments has been developed and will soon reach Parliament.
Italy's ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Valeria Biagiotti, has expressed the hope that the project will contribute to the cultural development of the Republic of Moldova, which is an important direction for promoting a country internationally. According to the ambassador, an important moment of the project was the fact that the young specialists were largely involved and are now much better prepared to contribute to the consolidation and protection of the cultural heritage of Moldova.
The project's resident advisor, Luisa De Marco, has mentioned that this project showed everyone that great things can be done with few resources if people work together and have the same goal. She also specified that nearly 30 experts from Italy were involved in the project activities in collaboration with Moldovan experts from the MECC and related institutions.
The project "Support to promote cultural heritage in the Republic of Moldova through its preservation and protection" was implemented by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, in collaboration with the EU partner - Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism. The project was launched in September 2017 and had a budget of one million euros.
