The Theatrical Union of Moldova (UNITEM) asked the Ministry of Justice to determine the legality of the May 11 Congress that elected the artistic director of “Satiricus - I.L.Caragiale” Theater Sandu Grecu as president of UNITEM. The vice president of UNITEM Mihai Cocieru has told Info-Prim Neo that the voting procedure was violated. “The UNITEM Senate voted illegally. On May 11, the Senate was represented by 11 people, but the Union’s statute says that representatives from all the theaters should attend, even if it seems that thee are too many of them,” Cocieru explained. ”They tried to reduce the number of Senate members from 21 to 9 or 11, he said. According to Mihai Cocieru, the amendments to the Union’s statute must be made only with the consent of the Ministry of Justice so that the results of the elections of the new president cannot be validated. ”After the Congress, the Union became divided into two. I think that we must convene the theater people again to remedy the situation. The jurists will examine the statute problem as the artists often do not understand certain things,” Mihai Cocieru said. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, director Sandu Grecu said that he is ready for a new voting. “The first results already showed that the Union undergoes changes. I’m sure we will have the same results if the elections are rerun.” The primary organizations fielded three candidates for the post of UNITEM president: director Alexandru Grecu, the president of a primary organization of UNITEM Gheorghe Oanta and the president of UNITEM until recently Aurelian Danila. Gheorghe Oanta has withdrawn his candidacy.
