Thousands of people will demonstrate in central Chisinau on May 1

The trade unions, employers and the Party of Communists will stage public meetings in the center of Chisinau today, May 1. The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) was the first that submitted an application to the Chisinau City Hall, asking being authorized to hold a public event in the Great National Assembly Square on May 1 and it was granted this right. PLDM deputy head Valeriu Strelet has told Info-Prim Neo that the party will not prepare special events, but the Lib-Dems will be in the central square of Chisinau alongside the trade unions and employers. The Communist Party intended to stage the Second Civic Congress in the Great National Assembly Square. The party’s leader Vladimir Voronin said that several thousand people on May 1 will go on a march from the Academy of Sciences towards the Square, where they will address the authorities. The National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova will mount a solidarity meeting in Chisinau’s central square, on the occasion of the International Workers’ Day, and a music festival titled “Peace! Work! May!”. According to the organizational committee, the meeting will adopt a resolution and a list of demands to the Government for improving the socioeconomic situation of the salary earners. The event, which is expected to involve over 15,000 people from all over the country, will start at 10:00.
