Three persons were remand in custody for 72 hours as a result of searches performed at the Information Technology Service of the Ministry of the Interior, at head offices of companies and homes of their representatives. These include an employee of the IT Service and two employees of the companies. The three are suspected of complicity in abuse of power, active and passive corruption and actions aimed at fixing public tender contests for monitoring traffic by favoring particular companies, IPN reports.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, the searches were carried out within four criminal cases started over abuse of authority, misuse of power and active and passive corruption. Public servants from the IT Service are suspected of committing abuses by using particular schemes in concert with representatives of business entities and eliminating relevant information about contraventions from the automated information system.

It was established that penalty points were illegally erased from the system, while the violations identified by surveillance cameras were classed as less serious offences so that smaller fines were imposed. Some of the violations detected by the Monitoring Center were annulled. Also, particular companies were favored at public tender contests staged by district councils for monitoring road traffic.
