Three persons were arrested in a criminal case that was started this May over non-payment of taxes in large amounts to the state budget by a number of sausage producers. During searches at the head offices of the given companies, the police seized over 7 million lei that wasn’t indicated in accounting records and spoiled sausages and tonnes of meat without documents of origin, IPN reports.

Investigators established that a number of business entities managed a fraudulent scheme by which the raw material was bought in cash in the absence of documents of origin and without recording the economic operations and issuing proofs of purchase in a move to diminish the taxes paid to the state.

Head of the Ministry of the Interior’s Economic Offenses Division Alexei Bacus told a news conference that three persons aged between 30 and 54 were arrested on suspicion that they managed the mentioned scheme. The raw material for making sausages was purchased from national producers and from abroad. A part of the merchandise from abroad was brought illegally, mainly through the Transnistrian region. The sausage producers used spoiled meat or meat from animals that were to be slaughtered because they were ill.

Head of the Chisinau Public Health Center Luminita Suveica said in the production section, information about the name of the products and date when the technological process was completed was absent. Moreover, some of the products had labels with future production dates. Microbes were detected in 21 of the 68 meat and sausage samples taken there. Also, some of these contained higher than allowed levels of nitrates and phosphates.

The investigation goes on.
