Three persons compete for post of ombudsperson for children’s rights

Maia Banarescu, Ecaterina Burlacu and Eugen Rusu have applied for the post of ombudsperson for children’s rights by the June 5 deadline, IPN reports.

According to the CVs of the candidates, Maia Banarescu has headed the Human Rights and External Cooperation Division of the Supreme Court of Justice since 2011. Ecaterina Burlacu serves as senior consultant at the Private Law Section and the General Juridical Division of the Parliament’s Secretariat. Eugen Rusu was deputy prosecutor general of Moldova until 2013, while now is a consultant at the National Institute of Justice.

The candidates will be interviewed in a public meeting on June 10. Two of them will be presented to Parliament within 30 days.

In April, Jana Costachi, who was elected as ombudswoman for children’s rights in the first round, didn’t poll the necessary number of votes at the second stage.
