A police chief of the Edinet district police commissariat, an operative officer and a senior inspector of the illegal human trafficking subdivision are suspected of passive corruption, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime, the police chief and the senior inspector are suspected of asking for US$400 from a person driving under the influence for not writing a report against him. For the same offense, en employee of the mentioned subdivision asked for US$200 from a person. The culprits are liable to 5 to 10 years in jail and a fine of 20 000 to 60 000 lei over passive corruption and may be banned from driving a vehicle for a period 3-5 years.
