Three employees of the National Patrolling Inspectorate are investigated following a denouncing statement submitted by a driver who said he was forced to give them €1,000 bribe. According to the denouncer, the policemen asked the money for not holding him accountable for alleged violations of the road traffic regulations, IPN reports.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, on March 9 the denouncer was stopped by officers of the National Patrolling Inspectorate, who invoked drunk driving. Contrary to the readings of the alcotest, which revealed the presence of alcohol in the expired air, the driver said he didn’t drink alcohol. He noted the police officers drew up no report as they aimed to hush up this case for a sum of money.

To clarify things, the denouncer called an acquaintance of the Road Accidents Section of the Chisinau Police Division and asked him to persuade his colleagues that the alcotest wasn’t accurate. When on the spot, the policeman told him he cannot solve the case and he should pay €1,000 to the patrol inspectors.

The National Anticorruption Center opened an investigation and followed the passing on of the money to the employee of the Road Accidents Section and then to the two patrol inspectors who stopped the man on March 9. The patrol inspectors were arrested, while the Road Accidents Section employee was put on the wanted list after he left the country. The three are investigated for influence peddling and passive corruption.

The prosecution is administered by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
