Three policemen penalized for ill-treating woman

Three employees of the Rascani Police Commissariat of Chisinau were punished disciplinarily for using violence against a woman. The penalty was imposed as a result of an inspection initiated at the request of prosecutors, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), a woman declared that in September 2012, being in hostile relations with a police officer, she was ill-treated by him and two colleagues of his. The PGO’s Torture Combating Division asked the Ministry of the Interior to establish if the police officers committed disciplinary violations. As a result of the inspection last December, the police officer who had been in conflict with the woman was dismissed, another policeman was relegated, while the third officer received a severe reprimand. The Prosecutor’s Office of Rascani district started a criminal case over exceeding of authority with use of violence. Earlier, the victim had been also maltreated by the police and she won the case at the ECHR.
