The so-called legislative body of the Transnistrian region's administration today voted in the first reading to expand the banned topics considered "propaganda of non-traditional values," IPN reports.
After the final vote, any reference to conscious refusal to have children, gender reassignment and LGBT could be banned. Not just among minors, but also the adult population.
There are several amendments proposed at the same time to seven acts, including the so-called "law" on the protection of children against information harmful to their health and development and the "law" on information, information technologies and information protection. It is proposed to introduce new bans, including on sex-change propaganda, the promotion of childfree and homosexual relationships.
These initiatives were discussed on March 31 at a meeting of the committee, with the participation of MEPs Igor Bughi, Andrei Safonov and Pavel Sincariuc. According to Igor Bughu, the proposed amendments aim to "protect society from the destructive tendencies in Europe".
The drafts were registered on March 4 and on April 9 they were voted on first reading without objections.
According to the initiatives, the dissemination of information falling under the broad definition of "non-traditional values" can be banned in the media, advertising, cinemas and online. Violation is punishable by fines (between 1,100-5,700 lei) or suspension of activity of legal entities for up to 90 days. For foreign nationals, including Moldovans on the right bank of the Dniester, the authorities in Tiraspol include administrative arrest or "deportation".
The human rights organization Promo-LEX notes that the initiative is directly inspired by similar decisions of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, including the law on banning "propaganda of childless life", adopted in November 2024, against the backdrop of demographic decline and military losses.
