Ex-ambassador of Moldova to Turkey Todur Angheli has launched three new books – a Romanian – Gagauz dictionary and two conversation guides. The volumes were issued in 1,000 copies and will be distributed among members of the Gagauz community in Moldova, IPN reports.

“The dictionary includes over 20,000 words and more than 16,000 synonyms. I had worked on these books for four years. It was very hard, but it was my duty of citizen, former MP and ambassador,” Todur Angheli said in the launch. He stressed that Moldova faces serious problems as regards the language as the young people finish studies without knowing the official language.

According to the author, there is no appropriate teaching support. “The children must know the Romanian language. If nothing is done, in 10 – 15 years we will experience very serious problems. I wanted to help. I spent 12,000 lei out of my own pocket. Nobody helped me,” stated Todur Angheli.

Attending the launch, former President of Moldova Petru Lucinschi said the Romanian language must be promoted. He thanked the author for his effort. “Mister Angheli devoted a part of his life to things that are virtually eternal,” he said.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Moldova Namig Aliyev said that a person reaches the highest level of knowledge when he writes a dictionary or a textbook. “It is very hard to write something when knowing that somebody will learn from what your write,” stated the diplomat.

Todur Angheli promised to publish the forth volume by the end of 2013. The books will be sent to settlements of Gagauz ethnics in the near future.
