The People’s Republic of China transmitted officially the Traditional Chinese Medicine Center that was opened within a bilateral project to Moldova. As part of the project launched several years ago, the center was built and the Moldovan specialists were trained by colleagues from China. China invested 5 million yuan (about €500,000) in the project, IPN reports.

In the handover ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Moldova Tong Mingtao told the journalists that all the doctors who work at the center benefited from internships in China. The Moldovan specialists acquired basic knowledge about the traditional Chinese medicine and are ready to put it into practice. There are several traditional Chinese medicine centers in the world, but the center in Chisinau, which is the only one in this area, must be an example for the whole Southeastern Europe.

Acting Deputy Minister of Health Gheorghe Turcanu said the center represents a clinic within the University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu”. It was opened in 2011 and since then provided 14,000 traditional medicine procedures. The center now has 18 medical employees, but specialists are continuously trained there and the services are projected to be doubled in the near future.

Ion Ababii, rector of “Nicolae Testemitanu” University, said that all the medical fifth-year students who chose the optional traditional medicine course were trained by specialists of the center.

The patients are admitted to the center based on a certificate from the family doctor. The Health Ministry will inform the family doctors about the center and the advantages of treatment by acupuncture, manual therapy and phytotherapy. Some of the procedures will be free, depending on the number of patients.
