Shortly after the Chisinau administration installed intermittent stoplights at several intersections in order to fluidize traffic, the Traffic Police Division ordered disconnecting them, the head of the Public Transport and Communications Division Adrian Boldurescu announced in the September 12 meeting of City Hall officials, Info-Prim Neo reports. Adrian Boldurescu said that only several intermittent traffic lights remained. “According to the prescription issued by the Traffic Police Division, the law is broken as the installation of the stoplights was not in accordance with the road traffic regulations,” he stated. According to Boldurescu, employees of the Ministry of the Interior suggested replacing the intermittent electric devices by signs with arrows. This fact dissatisfied the mayor of Chisinau, who demanded making an approach to the Traffic Police Division and requesting that the traffic lights be reconnected. “It is a pity to return to the old situation now that the given stoplights were tested and installed, especially because they are not so expensive, but have a greater effect,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. Earlier, the Chisinau City Hall submitted a bill with amendments to the road traffic regulations to the Government, which contains provisions about the traffic lights with intermittent green. “The legislation will be anyway amended and those stipulations will be implemented,” Dorin Chirtoaca said with certitude. Intermittent traffic lights were installed at 11 intersections at the City Hal’s request. Such stoplights now operate only at the intersection of the streets Lev Tolstoi and Bucuresti, and Ismail and Stefan cel cel Mare.
