Traian Basescu awards Dumitru Matkovski

Romania’s President Traian Basescu conferred the Cultural Merit Order, the Senior Officer degree in category A “Literature”, on Moldovan writer Dumitru Matkovski, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Department for Romanians Everywhere of the Government of Romania. “Dumitru Matkovski was awarded in gratitude for his abnegation and perseverance in promoting the national and cultural values of Romania and the respect for the rights of the Romanian communities abroad and for his contribution to strengthening the ties between the Romanians everywhere,” reads the decree signed by Traian Basescu. Born on October 20, 1939 in Vadul-Rascov village of Soroca county, Dumitru Matkovski is one of the greatest poets of Moldova who is recognized an international level. He is a symbol of the national renaissance movement in Bessarabia. His work includes more than 50 volumes of poetry, prose and dramatic texts. Music was written for many of his verses.
