“The young Moldovan students have the same chances as the young people from Romania and the whole Europe,” Romanian President Traian Basescu said during his visit to the State University “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” in Cahul on January 28, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Traian Basescu encouraged the teachers and students of the university to submit education and research projects to the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism of Romania, which budgeted 130 million euros for joint projects with Moldova and Ukraine for this year.
The university's rector Andrei Popa asked Traian Basescu to support the idea of creating crossborder faculties at the universities in Moldova.
“Though the cooperation between the crossborder universities, we will be able to mutually recognize and equalize the acquired knowledge,” Andrei Popa said.
For his part, Traian Basescu said that the number of award-holding Moldovan students in Romania next year could rise from 3,400 to 5,000. He added that the Governments of Moldova and Romania will sign soon an agreement to recognize the diplomas issued by the universities of the two countries.
