Today's meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) didn't produce any consensus on the situation of Corjova village, which is back on the JCC's agenda after two local officials were arrested there by the Transnistrian militia earlier this month. Ion Leahu, member of Moldova's delegation to the JCC, has told Info-Prim Neo that the Transnistrian side opposed a conciliatory decision that was intended to clarify the functions of the peacekeeping mission in similar situation as well as the status of Corjova. “The representatives of the Transnistrian region adopted a totally obscure position, were unwilling to see the essence and were not constructive. We had a very long and heated debate over this issue, but their terms were totally unacceptable because they were not compatible with reality”, said Ion Leahu. Tiraspol's position is based on the claim that the village of Corjova is part of Dubasari town, which is controlled by the separatist authorities, citing the 1992 ceasefire agreement, according to which the Transnistrian militia can patrol the village. They also claim that the arrested officials had broken the law and the militia had all the reason to arrest them. Ion Leahu says the Moldovan delegation proposed today a document aimed at clarifying the situation and finding the middle ground on the issue. In particular, the Moldovan delegation brought evidence that, under a 1990 decision of Moldavia's parliament, Corjova was removed from Dubasari town's jurisdiction and granted the status of an independent community. But the Transnistrian side denied this position. Leahu said the proposed document would be included in the agenda of the next JCC's meeting.
