The Turkish Republic on October 29 celebrates the 91st anniversary of its foundation. On this occasion, the Embassy of Turkey in Chisinau issued a press release, saying Turkey considers Moldova an important partner.  It notes that this year it is 20 years of the signing of the Friendship and Cooperation Agreement between the two states, IPN reports.

“Today, Turkey is the 16th largest economy in the world and the 6th in Europe, run by the principles of rule of law, social equality and economic development. This became possible through its deep-rooted tradition of statehood and adoption of democratic and secular principles, its advantages emanating from geography and history, its young and educated human resources and its dynamic economy,” it is said in the press release.

According to the Embassy, Moldova’s future integration with the European institutions will not only help to improve the welfare and well-being of the Moldovan people, but will also enrich the bilateral relations and will certainly pave the way for cooperation in new areas. The Friendship and Cooperation Agreement, signed by the Presidents of Turkey and Moldova on June 3, 1994, aims to strengthen the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and to contribute to establishing European order, peace and stability based on common values of democracy, human rights and rule of law.

Economic and commercial relations between the two countries have developed considerably during the recent years. Trade between Turkey and Moldova amounted to nearly US$537 million. The Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and Turkey, signed last month, represents an important cornerstone in the bilateral economic relations. After the signing of the Readmission Agreement earlier this year, the Visa Exemption Agreement came into force on June 1. The Turkish Development and Cooperation Agency (TIKA) has undertaken numerous projects in health, education and infrastructure so as to contribute to the economic development of Moldova.

The Embassy says that Turkey will continue to assist Moldova on its path to development.
