Twenty-four Moldovans and one person from Romania will compete in the third contest-festival “Nicolae Sulac” that will be held at the National Philharmonic House “S. Lunkevich” on December 12. The youngest competitor is 16.
Sixty-seven persons took part in the pre-selection, the director of the National Folk Art Center Iustina Scarlat has told Info-Prim Neo. Every applicant performed by two authentic songs from the lyric or epic repertoire of the folk zone that they represent and by a song from the repertoire of the late singer.
The jury was formed of eight members and was headed by Nicolae Botgros, conductor of the orchestra “Lautarii. “The 16-year-old girl and the boy from Romania’s Botosani made a strong impression,” Iustina Scarlat said.
The competitors will sing by three songs: a doina or a ballad, a song from Nicolae Sulac’s repertoire and a song of one’s choice. They will also have to answer questions in the competition “What do you know about Nicolae Sulac’s life and work?”
The Laureate Gala will take place at the National Palace on December 13. The Trophy winner will receive 8,000 lei. The top prize is 6,000 lei, the second prize – 4,000 lei, while the third prize (two prizes) – 2,000 lei. There will be also offered four special prizes of 1,000 lei each.
The contest is held once in two years. It is organized by the Ministry of Culture, the National Folk Art Center, the National Philharmonic House “S. Lunkevich” and the Concert Organization “Moldova-Concert”.
Folk singer Nicolae Sulac was born in 1936 in Sadac village of Cahul district. Nicolae Sulac is a people’s artist and a State Prize laureate. He won the Order of the Republic. He sang together with the orchestras “Folclor”, “Mugurel”, “Fluieras”, and “Lautarii”. He died in 2003 and was buried at the Central Cemetery in Chisinau.
