The Supreme Council of Magistrates decided not to extend the terms in office of two judges who tried legal cases related to the April 7 events, Info-Prim Neo reports.
At Tuesday's meeting, the members of the Council refused to name two judges who participated in the examination of the mentioned cases inside the General Police Commissariat for a new term until they reach 65. The trying of cases in such places represents a serious violation of the Constitution and the Penal Code and runs counter to article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights that grantees the right to a fair trial.
The two judges are Drosu Mihail, of the Buiucani Court, and Crutco Sergiu, of the Centru Court of Chisinau. Their terms in office expire on February 2 and March 16 respectively.
In accordance with article 11 of the law on the status of judge, the two judges were appointed for an initial five-year term by the President of Moldova, at the suggestion of the Supreme Council of Magistrates.
The Council did not yet decide whether to send the cases against the two judges to the Prosecutor's Office for examination or not.
