The Cabinet decided to transfer free of charge to farmers in northern Moldova two plots of land that are necessary for the development of irrigation infrastructure. A relevant decision was approved on Wednesday, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the decision is part of a broader effort to rehabilitate irrigation systems and support farmers affected by the drought.
Minister Ludmila Catlabuga said that agriculture must become more competitive and more resilient to climate change. Through this investment, at least 1,900 hectares of agricultural land will be irrigated and this is expected to lead to an over 50% increase in production compared to the last 10 years.
"This measure also has economic effects, such as generating new jobs, increasing the incomes of agricultural producers and strengthening the rural economy," noted the official.
