A 51-year-old man from Rumeantsev village of Cahul district lost his life in a house fire caused by a smoldering cigarette.
Dorina Sochirca, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the fire happened at night. The man died from carbon monoxide poisoning after the cigarette set the bedclothes on fire. The body was partially carbonized.
Employees of the local mayor's office said the man lived with his mother, but she died last December. He divorced his wife long ago. Their son was in the care of his mother. The man was an invalid of the first disability degree.
Another man aged 53 died in a fire that occurred in his apartment in Balti town on the night of April 20. An investigation is under way.
Six fires happened in Moldova yesterday and last night.
