Two public transport travel allowances will be merged and, as of January 1, 2017, will be called compensation for transport services. A bill to this effect was approved by the Cabinet on December 21, IPN reports.
By this bill, the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family suggests merging the allowance for travelling by urban, suburban and interurban public transport and the annual compensation for travel expenses.
The compensations are set by the local social assistance bodies, while the money is allocated from the state budget by special cash transfers to the budgets of the territorial-administrative units of the second level. When the medium-term budgetary framework for 2017-2019 was considered, a sum of 76.1 million lei a year was earmarked for the purpose, intended for about 182,000 recipients.
