The UK Government is launching new John Smith Trust Fellowship Programs intended for young people from Russia, the Caucasus, Wider Europe and Central Asia. The aim of the Fellowship Programs is to give the next generation of leaders the chance to explore issues of governance, social justice and the rule of law through an intensive four-week series of workshops, debates, visits and placements in the UK, reinforced by follow-up mentoring and support, IPN reports.
The program for young people from Wider Europe will be run between May 20 and June 16, 2017. The Trust’s Director Clare Bebbington recently paid a visit to the Republic of Moldova to announce the launch of new programs.
John Smith Fellows can come from any field, particularly politics, administration, business, the media, and civil society. The age band of Fellows will normally be 25 to 35 years. The applicants must speak and write fluent English, demonstrate their potential as a leader in the chosen professional field and be committed to the positive future development of their country. They must also demonstrate a clear professional interest in the areas of good governance, rule of law or social justice and propose an Action Plan addressing a policy or organizational issue of importance in their field of work which they intend to implement on return to their home country.
Further details about the eligibility criteria and participation are available on the website of the John Smith Trust http://www.johnsmithmemorialtrust.org/apply.aspx. The deadline for submissions is February 24, 2017.
