Two citizens of Ukraine were arrested by officers of the Prosecutor’s Office for Crime and Special Cases because they illegally accessed telecommunications services and networks of Moldtelecom SA, Moldcell SA and Orange Moldova SA, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor’s Office.
The two are suspected of making unauthorized local and international voice calls, causing thus damage of over 260,000 lei to the telecoms carriers.
To arrest them, the police broke the door because the suspects tried to destroy evidence, throwing VoIP equipment used to generate mobile phone traffic.
The Ukrainians will be held at the remand prison of the Chisinau Police Division for 72 hours initially. The car by which they crossed the Moldovan border was seized.
It should be noted that four Ukrainians were arrested in Moldova in 2016. These formed part of an organized criminal group that illegally accessed telecommunications services and networks in Moldova.
