The Ministry of Health of Moldova and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on January 30 signed an agreement under which UNDP will buy vital medicines for Moldovan patients in 2017, IPN reports, quoting a press release of UNDP.

The drugs will be purchased within a number of national and special health programs, including the National Program on Prevention and Control of HIV/AIDS and STIs.

UNDP Moldova will also support the modernization of conditions for storing drugs, in accordance with the best distribution practices. The project will be implemented in partnership with the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

In November 2015, UNDP became the first the first UN agency that purchased the most spread HIV treatment method for less than 100$ per patient a year, for several countries. This was historical progress compared with the sum of 10,000$ a year, which was the cost of the same treatment ten years ago. The 2016 Transparency Index recognized UNDP as the most transparent development organization, among another 46 international agencies.
