Liberal-Democrat Iurie Toma Thursday was elected head of Ungheni district by the votes of the councilors representing the parties of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI).
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Iurie Toma said that Ungheni district borders the European Union and this is probably the reason why the representatives of the AEI parties reached a consensus. The new district head said that discussions were carried out with all the factions on the council, but the Communists did not support him. “The personal problems are more important than the people’s problems for them,” he stated.
The head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet has told Info-Prim Neo that the formation of a democratic coalition in Ungheni shows that things inside the ruling alliance return to normality. He voiced hope that the representatives of the AEI will manage to make coalitions in the other districts where heads have not been yet elected.
Iurie Toma was voted in as head of Ungheni district by the votes of 21 councilors of the 35. The Communist councilors did not take part in the voting.
