A Chestnut Trees Festival will be held in Ungheni town for the first time at the start of this May. The event is designed to emphasize the originality of Moldovan traditions and also the beauty of the alley of chestnut trees in the town, which is about 3 km long and is one of the longest alleys of chestnut trees in Europe, IPN reports, with reference to the Ungheni mayor’s office.

The festival is organized by the Ungheni mayor’s office in partnership with the National Office of Vine and Wine. The organizers said the alley, which is about 40 years old, became an important tourist attraction for the municipality of Ungheni.

“We hope the idea of organizing the Chestnut Trees Festival will be welcomed by the residents of Ungheni and will become a good instrument for prompting local, national and international tourism, the sociocultural values and urban nature of Ungheni municipality,” said the municipality’s deputy mayor Eduard Balan.

According to the organizers, the festival will have promotional particularities and will bring together the diversity of arts at one event, such as painting, photography, handicrafts, music, dance and gastronomy. A small town of traditions will be set up to present works made by Moldovan and Romanian craftspeople.

There will also be arranged such interest areas as a children’s area, an arts area, a photo sessions area, a sports area that will host an athletics competition and a gastronomic area to present traditional dishes and food made from chestnuts.
