In 125 schools in Moldova, water supply, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure will be built or rehabilitated. UNICEF and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development signed an Action Plan for 2024-2025, laying the foundations of a partnership to improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene services in schools in the country, IPN reports.
The document stipulates that UNICEF will provide technical assistance and €3 million worth of grants for contracting, implementing and supervising infrastructure rehabilitation or construction works in the selected schools. It goes to indoor sanitary facilities, handwashing facilities, treatment plants, etc.
At the same time, UNICEF will offer technical support to strengthen the authorities’ capacity to plan and provide better access to safe and clean water, hygiene and sanitation for all children, ensuring sustainability and resilience to climate change.
The Action Plan 2024-2025 was signed by UNICEF Moldova Country Representative Maha Damaj and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu. The document stipulates the joint directions of cooperation for the rehabilitation/construction of water supply, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure in the 125 schools in Moldova.
The Ministry will ensure the execution of the works specified in the Action Plan through the National Office for Regional and Local Development.
