A group of unionists laid flowers at the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy in Chisinau on the National Day of Romania. They said that this way they commemorate the Great Union and express their wish for Moldova to unite with Romania, IPN reports.

The participants in the event voiced hope that the union of the two states will take place the coming years. “Romania is our country, the motherland that raised us and then lost us not through its fault. Maybe a new December 1 will be witnessed in 2018, when we will all celebrate the reunification of the country and the people,” said a woman.

“It’s a pity that the contemporary young people do not realize what Romania is and that Moldova cannot exist as a separate state as it is thus an artificial state. We have nothing but people and land. The people went abroad and let the land lie fallow. How can we live so? We should unite,” said another participant.

“We came here because it is the Union Day today. We celebrate this holiday together with all the Romanians everywhere. We don’t know when the union will take place. We must mobilize and walk up to the border and remove it so as to be a single country, even today,” said another woman taking part in the event.
