Members of the unionist association “Unirea ODIP” on April 1 launches a campaign to collect signatures for dismissing President Igor Dodon. The association’s head Vlad Biletski announced the intention in a protest against the constitutional referendum decreed by the Head of State that was mounted at the State Residence on March 29. In the referendum, the people will be asked if they want the History of Moldova to be taught in schools. The protesters also expressed their dissatisfaction with the President’s request to make teaching of Russian mandatory again, IPN reports.
“We will collect signatures starting with April 1 and will submit them to Parliament. We will also send them to the Venice Commission so that this also knows what the population of the Republic of Moldova wants,” stated Vlad Biletski.
“Russian language can be introduced in schools as an optional subject, not yet as a mandatory one. It is good to know more languages, but no one should force you to study these. Obliging is a crime,” said ODIP member Valeriu Taran.
Member Otilia Dascal said Russian is the language of ‘conquerors’ and should no way be introduced as a mandatory school subject. “I want to study the Romanian language, not the Moldovan language, and the History of Romanians, not the History of Moldova, which is an invented one,” stated the young woman.
The presidential administration’s secretary Ion Ceban went out and explained that the subject of teaching of the History of Moldova in schools is proposed for a referendum for the population to pronounce on it. As regards the statements about the Russian language, it is the President’s position on which he will not comment.
