Unlicensed dentist gets one year in jail

A dentist accused of practicing illegally was sentenced to one year in prion for negligence, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Prosecutor General's Office. The prosecutors accused the 25-year-old dentist of administering treatment to a man without assessing his general condition in his office in Durlesti town in January last year. He gave him a local anesthetic and pulled out three of his teeth without recording the operations made. When home, the man felt sick and was taken to Saint Trinity Hospital in Chisinau with cadriogenic shock several hours later. The next day, he died of acute cardiopulmonary insufficiency – pulmonary edema. The medical examination showed the 54-year-old man died as a result of repeated myocardial infarction caused by chronic cardiovascular diseases. The dentist was obliged to examine the patient, inquire about his condition and include the information in the patient's card or the dentist's register. An expert commission established that the operations performed by the dentist hastened the man's death. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
