A new vehicle traffic regulation has been adopted in Moldova to meet the provisions of the Law on Vehicular Traffic Safety as well as international standards in the field, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The regulation, adopted by the Cabinet on Wednesday, March 4, introduces a number of important changes like the rights and responsibilities of the road workers, and outlines the basic rights and obligations of the participants in the vehicular traffic.
Among the novelties of the document is the obligation of the driver to wear a safety vest with reflective strips when repairing the car on the road or the highway.
In conformity with the European practice, the speed limit in built-up areas was lowered from 60km/h to 50km/h, with certain portions where speeding up to 80km/h will be allowed.
A new sign was introduced for the traffic agents to use in handling busy intersections.
In addition, to compensate for the low visibility in the period from November 1 to March 31, drivers will be required to drive with the lights on, even during daytime hours.
A series of traffic signs were also introduced, mainly for convenience purposes, for example, to guide tourists to attractions.
Moldovan Minister of Interiors Gheorghe Papuc thinks the new regulation will significantly increase the order and safety on the public roads.
The new rules take effect after two months from publishing in the Official Gazette.
