The United States offered more than $38 million worth of grants for the implementation of a series of projects in the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

The Cabinet approved the signing of the fifteenth Amendment to the Development Objective Assistance Agreement with the U.S. Government for strengthening participatory democracy, which was signed in Chisinau on September 28, 2016. It provides for an additional grant of $12.2 million.

According to Artur Mija, Secretary General of the Government, the money is intended for projects that will promote civic culture in cooperation with independent media organizations and will improve the public services provided by the local public administration.

The executive also approved the initiation of negotiations and the signing of the eighteenth Amendment to the Development Objective Assistance Agreement with the U.S. Government for sustainable economic growth anchored in European integration, which was signed in Chisinau on September 28, 2016. In this case, the grant funding totals $26 million.

“The grant will increase the access of local products and services to the European market and will increase the competitiveness of IT, digital media, engineering and light industry. Thus, opportunities will be created for entrepreneurs and this will contribute to increasing the level of wellbeing of citizens,” stated Artur Mija.
