A group of about 20 vagrants rallied Monday outside the Chisinau City Hall building to seek domicile. After talking with Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, who promised them placement in a shelter for the homeless, the group vanished, Info-Prim Neo.
The vagrants, however, told the mayor that they had been gathered Sunday night following a police raid and were instructed to show up in front of the City Hall in the morning. “We told them to let those who have a home go, but they took everyone of us and sent here”, said one of the vagrants.
The mayor told the protesters he could find jobs for them in a municipal service, promising they would have psychological counseling in the shelter and identification papers, which many of the homeless lack.
After the mayor entered the City Hall building to arrange for the transportation of the vagrants to the shelter, they disappeared.
When asked by Chirtoaca for an explanation, Chisinau's deputy police commissar Iacob Gumenita said he was “not familiar with the issue”.
