“I will never avoid responsibility in the case of the leasing out of the Chisinau airport. The contract will be terminated if it’s not respected,” Valeriu Lazar, who yesterday resigned from the post of Minister of Economy, stated for the information portal Agora, IPN reports. He made the statement following assertions that his resignation is related to his previous activities as a minister, including the concession of the Chisinau International Airport.
“As to the airport, I do not shirk responsibility. I repeat that the contract was analyzed thoroughly and went through the Cabinet two times. Those who make accusations must take and read the contract and then go and see what was done and what wasn’t done. Afterward, I will have discussions with them. By now the contract was fully respected and there are no reasons to reproach the company managing the airport,” said Valeriu Lazar.
He noted that if the clauses are not obeyed in the future, the contract can be terminated. “When we signed the contract, we made sure that it can be terminated, if it’s not respected. Many ignore this aspect and speculate on this contract. Thus, the accusations against me are groundless. Their arguments are related to the ‘geopolitical’ area, i.e. they discuss whether the company that manages the airport is from the East or from the West. This is an unserious discussion giving a signal of political infantilism to investors. We must overcome the stage when we use such subjective criteria in the relations with foreign investors, regardless of their country of origin,” stated Valeriu Lazar.
